Option Metrics

what are option metrics? option metrics describe the performance of your option against criteria set in the project there isn't a single metric that can determine if the option is better (or worse), so optioneer provides a comprehensive suite of metrics that describe costs, impacts on constraints and key technical parameters of every option what are the main types? the complete list of option metrics can be obtained upon request, as it is dependent on the project area and asset type the main, commonly assessed metrics, which are also often found in reports analysis by various subject matter experts (smes), are described below distance through constraint this metric provides the total distance of direct interaction (crossing) of a given constraint the metric can be also split into sub types that will describe total distance for various asset types or construction methods, e g 'total distance through woodland for steel tower' or 'total distance through flood risk for underground cable' example metrics of this type are overall distance through 'woodlands' overall distance through 'flood risk areas' and so on! number of constraint items within 'x' distance this metric provides a count of individual features within a defined distance, in meters or in feet (depending on project settings and localisation) users can define up to 4 separate distances from the centreline of the row that optioneer analyses the counts are 'inclusive' meaning that the larger distance(es) will include all features also contained within the shorter distanc(es) example metrics of this kind are number of buildings within 100 0m from the centreline number of archeology sites within 300 0ft from the centreline and so on! number of crossings this metric provides the overall count of crossings of existing obstacles or constraints, mostly used to summarize constraints that can be represented as a line on the map example metrics of this kind are number of crossings of 'major roads' number of crossings of 'named rivers' and so on! total distance following an existing right of way this metric describes the distance where the option follows an existing right of way example metrics of this kind are total distance following 'existing electricity transmission' total distance following 'minor roads' and so on! total distance following an existing right of way this metric describes counts of assets placed along the route, such as key structures (towers) or sections of a specific construction method example metrics of this kind are total number of 'angle towers' total number of 'hdd sections' and so on! total length of the route this metric simply describes the total length of the route, allowing for a quick comparison of various options under consideration how can i use them? option metrics are the foundation of analysis and comparison in optioneer to view them, simply select the option of interest and select the metrics that are relevant to you
